Nitrate??????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Good point! It is much easier to clean the larger pieces of substrate in a FW tank, than the sand substrate most of us use in our SW systems. Im my 2 larger tanks, I have a lot of critters living in my sand bed I do not wish to disturb, which are detrious eaters & should help with that problem (both tanks have DSB). In my nano, I have larger grains & I do stir the substrate with a chopstick before each WC.

When I kept puffers in a 55g I used crushed coral & while doing my 50% weekly WC on them, I'd use the gravel cleaner with a Python to clean under & around all decor.

Somebody, please show me an article where it says that regurlarly done, large WC will stress your fish/system

BTW I was directing my comment at jacki, but it appears she hasn't been on this thread for a while.

I realize that & agreed with you.

sorry people just got home from a bssiness trip to CA. I have my friend change the water for me while I was gone. He said he changed about 10% each day. I test it and still at 80ppm. I dont have a cannister filter and when I do WC i do use a gravel vac. I did check my tap water and its not it. I dont know what is going on, but all the fish and eels are doing just fine, they eat and I only give them food three time a week. (seafood) Stille no ammonia or nitrite both at 0ppm. Thank you guys again, but if you guys think of something please let me know.

You are going to have to do much larger WC than 10% to remove those nitrates.
