I first the first time in years starting checking my levels these last few weeks. Those of you who know for the time being my tank is way overstocked and ill admit it.. Never have any ammonia but no matter how much I change the water I maintain a constant nitrate level. Not horrible but its def there. Any advice to get it away without removing some of the fish LOL? Add more bio to the sump maybe? No fish seem stressed and Im guessing its always been like this but just recently I started checking since now I have over $10k worth of livestock...
 
More WCing needed or add some bio max to the sump. I'm about to do this to my rays' tank.
 
thats exactly what I thought but I havent seen any ammonia for weeks

I guesss it must be nitrates. Step up the wc's ( it is only till the new tank is ready ) and cut agressively on feeding.

try this before selling, Michael.
 
Sounds like you might have a bio media definciency if it is nitrites. How much bio media is in the tank. Maybe you aren't growing enough benificial bacteria. It's either that or you need more water changes to get rid of nitrates. Just throwing something out there.
 
You need more filtration, I've experienced the same before. I had a 65g tank with 3 large RBPs in it. At the time the only filter I had on it was a penguin 350B. I could never measure any level of ammonia but would always measure elevated levels of nitrites and they would be much higher the day after I fed. I confirmed this with two seperate test kits. Once I added a small wet/dry sump that I had running on another tank the nitrite level dropped to zero.
 
add a pack or 2 of bio spira and some seachem stability...
