My intent was only to question the benefits of feeding a variety of foods versus only one particular product.

I didn't mean to start any sort of "Hikari versus NLS" debate on this thread, it's been done to the point of flogging a dead horse. If you go to that ridiculously long thread it is obvious that it is more a matter of personal preference/prejudice than any real difference in the ability of either brand to raise quality fish. :nilly: What I find very interesting is the polarization you see on this subject. Why do so many people find it necessary to choose sides? In the immortal words of Rodney King "Can we all get along?"

Definitely understood, Dan. We all respect each other here (on THIS thread, can't say the same for that hikari vs NLS one). I just find some of hikari's practices questionable, and at the end of the day I will put my money towards what I think is a better quality fish food developed and made right here in the USA. If someone wants to buy hikari, by all means do it. But when the topic comes up, I feel strongly about it and sometimes that can come off as something I didn't intend it to.
Hey, if you're in Portland anytime soon, I have a huge can of NLS Thera 3mm, you're welcome to have some of it and try it out for yourself. :)

Of course not, I have the utmost respect for the time you take to share the knowledge you have. I think it should be clear to anyone who is actually intelligent that you have more knowledge about aquatic life and their diets than most of us combined.

I am going to go ahead and concede now. My wife (not me, i was going to be neutral until the 30 days was up) said that one of the fish looked much more vibrant and had some yellow in it, which had not been the case over a week ago. Maybe it's my water changes, but those have not changed since I have had these guys. Maybe it's maturity, but they are all over 2 years old? Hmmm.....

Sometimes wives/girlfriends are the best judges of this. When I look at my fish I look for stuff like is it swimming normally, breathing at a normal rate, behaving in a normal manner, are the fins in good shape, etc. I don't look too closely at color usually, unless a fish is noticeably pale or something.
My lady on the other hand looks at the colors ONLY every day. When she pointed out my argentea had better coloring yesterday, I can honestly say I hadn't noticed until she pointed that out.
And yes, they're fed NLS exclusively. ;)

If possible, you should take weekly pictures. This will be a true indicator of color change. You watching them each day makes it difficult to detect changes, or you may convince yourself that you do see changes when in reality there aren't any. Pictures don't lie (same lighting, position, time, etc each week).

I took the challenge on this site, and posted videos each day, which unfortanatly is the only thing I have regretted in this hobby; but not because of NLS.

Any ways I think its interesting that you saw more aggression as that is exactly what i saw and documented. I never really saw any wow proof positive color changes except for my two jewles who just over night got 500% brighter. At the time I thought it could have been a matting thing, but the color has stayed, well after I stopped the NLS and well after the second jewel committed suicide

Looking forward to seeing before and after.
