I totally understand keeping maintenance to a minimum with a family as well. Problem for me is I travel ALOT so my wife is doing water changes while I'm gone and I've had more than one panicked phone call asking " why is water all over the carpet" from something a non-fish person(aka my wife) has inadvertently done. For my situation, redundancy is a way of life.

In that case, you should consider an auto water changer. They can range from very simple ones to complex electronically controlled setups. Here is a fairly simple one from back in the day by Rallysman. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27474

Very cool info. I was actually talking to the wife about doing something along those lines to make our lives easier and something like this would work really well. Of course, when I started digging around in the closet behind the tank she looked at me and said " you not thinking about going through the wall to do it are you?"......:grinno: and I say " no, I'll just run the pipes across the living room floor so we don't mess up the walls":headbang2

Thanks for the link. I hadn't seen this version. Definately food for thought for sure..... Hmm
