my understanding that adding dechlorinator to the tank and then adding tap water "works" and is "ok"
dechlorinator will kill yer fish if you use to much of it.. you have to seriously OD them to kill them but still...
chlorine kills bacteria (thats why they add it to tap water) and its is bad for fish it burns their gills and eats slimecoat....
so if you dont have a choice adding the dechlorinator to the tank and then adding the water is the way to go... but if it can be avoided it prolly should be....
there are people that dont use dechlorinator at all and people that always treat the tank then add water.. these people will tell you that you dont need to worry about and all that...... but IMO just cuz the guy at the circus throws daggers at his wife while shes straped to a spinning board does not make it a good idea...
im pretty sure theres several... only problem is theres no good way to seach for it.. all the key words are used in just about every thread that takes place around here
In reading this thread and being new to owning a Python syphon. How does one identify the amount of dechlor to put in the tank prior to fresh water? It's not like you can calculate gallons being removed if it's going right down the sink. I could probably eye-ball and guess what if I put more decholre than neccessary? I have a 55 gal. Any tips out there to be shared?
you don't need to be exact with the amount of declor. if you take out about half of a 55g tank then use the appropriate amount of for about 25-30g. IMO its ok to add declor to a tank then add the water i've been doing it for YEARS on lots of tanks and i've never had a problem.
