no more hikari in canada!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If that's true that sucks. Do you know what the law was that prohibits the import of it?

this happened in the UK a few years ago

it was something to do with bird flu and poultry in some of the foods

it has been back for sale in the UK for over a year now

we cant buy the 1kg bags here which are much cheaper so i get mine shipped from the US and even with the shipping its still much cheaper

thanks you know who you are :D

yeah i was told this a couple of months ago, totally sucks!!!! not impressed same for the san fransico bay blood worms from what im told.

I've been told that stores that want to continue importing hikari foods have to go through a lengthy application process and most can't and won't be bothered. Probably comes with a price also. Still lots of hikari on my LFS' shelves anyways.

...something to do with some of the ingredients being outsourced from China. Since when does the gov't care about fishfood anyways??

The Canadian government must have read the thread about Purina, which included some ugly comments about Hikari, They now realize that Hikari is nothing but trash, as pointed out by our educated memebers, and all of us who use it are enjoying our "ignorance in bliss". So to save you from yourselves, the Canadian government has chosen not to import Hikari........uhhh if that is even true.

Your government cares for those with little "critical thinking skills":D

Use the search button, its been discussed months back.

Basically the federal food inspection agency got too many complaints when dogs were dieing a few years back due to bad food.

As such the cfia requires regular inspection of all pet food plants. Being some Hikari plants are in China and there's no way in hell China would issue a visa to a foreign inspector. Hence hikari plants can't be inspected, thus no import permit for them into Canada.

So, China would rather loose a whole COUNTRY as a buyer for their foods than let a foreign inspector check out the plants?! Thats crazy bad business.
