No Traffic In The Ray Section? Whats The Deal?

I was on vacation the first half of April... MAN, nothing beats a good house sitter. Came home to rays and fish in great condition.

I'll have to post some updates it's been a while. I even saw some breeding activity in my tank recently. That would be cool to get a hystrix/ocellata hybrid.

Well I say if you can build to or make a system better do it. Why stay with something that gets you by when you can make it better. I was running hob filters for about 15yrs. Next I got canisters ran them with hob filters for 5yrs. Then I got a sump I made from a 55gal(it was not good at all but my first attempt), this was the last 2yrs of the canisters part. Then I got a 40gal sump on trade with a hob overflow. Ran great with my canisters. Lost the hob filters did this for 1yr. Now I just built a PVC overflow/spray bar and linked my 180 to my 125 planted. Now I have something like 2200gph on my 180gal alone then it is linked to my planted 125gal that has 500gph alone. They are (for the time being linked with a ehime pro 3 it will soon have a pump of its own in my sump and a larger sump/system.

Always improve never sit and idle no matter how good you think your system is. It can always be better. Next I am on to bigger sumps, reactors and drip systems.

T1- I'm not going to go back and forth with you here as it never ends good, so this will be my last reply to you.

I have 3 traffic jam free reactors running here. The latest runs a smaller air pump then you used. You simply choose to take the easy route and go back to "ol reliable" rather then doing the work, making improvements an redesigning till it's right, then you hide your laziness by calling the moving bed design "rubbish".

We must have been raised different. You're arrogant. I'm not. We hold ourselves to different standards. I'm learning. You're an expert already. I say my stuff doesn't work, cause it doesn't work as well as I'd like it to..... yet. You say yours works cause your small group of rays in a giant tank works fine. IF I had your system, I'd call it rubbish and rebuild it, cause I don't believe in tried in true, I believe in improvement, evolution, learning better ways through mistakes. Something narrow minded individuals find impossible, cause the first step is actually admitting you're wrong. Easy for people like me. Difficult if not impossible for the arrogant. IF you had my system you'd add a bunch of dinky lil daisy chained UVs and call it "working" despite UV kill rate programs proving that this is rubbish.

For 5+ years now I've listened to advice from people like you - water doesn't matter. run what comes out of your tap.... Ever thought this could be bad advice? I've always thought it was poor advice, but who am I to argue? I'm no expert, I'm here to learn from the experts. Problem is after all this time I'm having a hard time keeping my mouth shut about all the crap advice that's been regurgitated all over this forum year after year. Hell I might go so far as to say that MAYBE the reason people "move on" is cause they figure out that it's the blind leading the blind right out of the hobby..... BUT this annoyance doesn't trump the love many of us have for flat fish, which is why so many of us continue to stay here despite people like you that have nothing better to do then toot your own arrogant horn and argue with people cause your too lazy to go improve something. I bet if you spent half the time on a reactor as you do rubbing people the wrong way maybe you could find a way around that traffic jam in the reactor.

That traffic jam of an attitude of yours might not be so easy to fix though........

mmmmmmm so i dont try new things yet i tried the reactor and found your right i am lazy and cant be asked looking to see everyday if the media is moving well

the methods are old yes but tried and tested its best to stick to what you know rather than play with rays lifes dont you think

as for water right out of the tap that all depends on your location rays dont like change so with all the messing about you do its no wonder things dont work out

you have your little gang of followers who think the sun shines well you know where with you book size posts

maybe i was brought up different to you and you went to a school and i went to a farm but thats besides the point

people can take my advice or not it doesnt bother me one way or the other

you make no sence saying i push my ideas of course i push them because i think they are right the same way you push the reactor because you think its right and defended it to the max ejrm i said it was rubbish much the same way i defend my ideas

maybe i should not post for a bit and let you run the forum like you did when i was in hospital

T1.. DB.. I've gotten decent advise from both of you over the years.. but seriosuely.. your constant squabbleing is worse then my 18month olds.. and I would like nothing better some days then reach threw the CPU screen and slap the Egos out of both of you.

I was wondering how long it would take before you two where snarling at eachother, leading to most everyone else to just stop responding.

The sad part is I'm fairly new to the ray sub-forum, IDK how some of the older guys and Mods have put up with your constant bickering.

Just block eachother already... sheesh.

It has nothing to do with flaming but more to do with the majority of people have their collection in place and don't need their hands held anymore so they tend to ask less questions or do fewer updates!!! Only so many ways you can update on the same stingrays you have had for 5 years plus.
If you can't learn the works of this site or are able to use search function and the basics of computers then maybe you shouldn't be looking after rays. There is a difference between asking questions,stupidity and being down right lazy.Maybe, SEARCH the stickies and doing some research first and then when all has been exhausted and you can't find the information then ask the question. Do teachers give you the answers to the test before hand? I am pretty sure these aren't children that are owning rays unless they have rich parents and I am pretty sure I didn't sign up here to babysit and hold hands.
Rays aren't cheap and shouldn't be owned by the non experienced fish keepers as they are a long term commitment and require more care. It's not like you can change them out each month like a cichlid when you get bored of them.

Maybe they should have an advanced ray keeper section only and the children scared to be flamed section.
