is there any sp. of shark availible that could stay in a 55gal for life? pics of said sharks?

no, not even hatchlings could be kept in that tank

Sorry no shark could stay in a tank that size for life. You could keep a hatchling in that size tank for very short while but why bother. You should Have something in 500 gal range to get started. Most sitting sharks need 1000 gal or larger for life. Search around here a little, there is plenty of guidelines on here for tank size and set up for many different sharks

seriously? i have seen some sharks that stay hardcore small...i am not talking black tips or anything...for that i will wait for a massive indoor lake...i don't remember the name, but i saw one on tv that they said maxed out at 8"...

not sure on 8" that would be surprising and there may be shark in the ocean that stays that small but finding and keeping it in captivity is a whole other matter, smallest shark i know that's readily available in fish trade is the bamboo shark and they still get like 3ft and need like 300g tank

There are freshwater fish called sharks that stay small - but these aren't the sharks you're talking about.

those are some good pieces of advice, as bigger is always better [especially with sharks]
but 1000gals is a bit more than the bare mimimum needed for the smaller benthic species.
keeping dimensions in mind: 200-300 gals is a good gallonage to start with, and 500-700 is enough for an adult of one of the small benthic "sitting" species.

the smallest most commonly available shark i know of would be the coral catshark.

some of the freshwater fish called sharks get bigger than some saltwater sharks :D

to answer your original question: sorry, but no.

True you can start out with much smaller than 500 gal but I would not give out that advice because I don't know everyones money situation and setting up tanks is expensive. So If you have the time and cash to go and upgrade all the time go for it. Plus I figured that most likely someone would be looking at a bamboo that would end up being 4' at some point and they should really have a big tank. The coral cat shark is nice cause it says around 24"
The smallest shark that I have ever seen just thumbing through books and the web is Etmopterus spinax. I think its called the The velvet belly lantern shark witch max size is about 45 cm but there is no way this would be for sale anywhere.

i kinda figured it was a long shot finding one availible...i will just get one after i buil a tank for one...

Yeah - there are a few deep water lantern sharks that max out at about 9-12 inches(22-30 cm). However these species aren't available to private aquarists.

There are a few cool water catsharks that max out in the 16-22" range which are possible for private aquarists to get. But generally these tend to be hard to find & fairly expensive.
