One 200 gallon sump. :naughty:

with a tank that big id definately go with a sump, well worth the hassle!

I've got a 250 gal, I think the 300's are usually the same 8'x2' except they're 30" tall instead of 25", right? I've got an Oscar, a 5" Chocolate Cichlid, a 6" Green Terror & 6 3" Silver Dollars in mine with an FX5, 2 AquaClear 110's (500 gph) & a 1200 gph powerhead. The bottom is always clean, water quality is clear & always perfect. Your stocking would be similar to mine for the most part. I'd use the FX5 and grab a couple AquaClear110's for $34 each from this link: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3610&prodid=6173&catid=113
and I think you'd be good to go. I'd also cycle with straight ammonia before you add fish. I like understocked tanks. There's still plenty of activity in the tank yet room for each fish. It's still 'crowded' in their minds but they adapt a lot better than being crammed in an over-stocked tank.

I would highly recommend a FX5 and Wet/Dry combination, it is what I use on my 220 and it works great... also I dont see a hassle with a sump, as long as it is setup properly it should be problem free...

I like putting powerheads in tanks to so it moves the water more and stuff gets sucked in the filters
I've found that over a dozen 10" fish move plenty of water.:D

yea, i see the benefit of the powerhead and im sure ill get at least one, i already ordered an fx5 from the drfosters site.

To the people that say a sump is well worth the hassle what would make it better than a second fx5 other than price? also do i have to drill in order to use a sump and is that difficult with a glass tank? can i do it myself?

So i measured the tank its 2'x2'x7' so the math works out to about 200gal not 300.

i think i agree with you that i would rather have more free space for the fish to move around, with that said do you think i could fit an arow, tiger oscar and a few 6" cichlids without it getting too cramped?
