ok you guys almost have me convinced on the sump, so i need to figure out how to do it.

Is it absolutely necessary to drill the tank?

Is this something i can do once its full or should i do it now. I have a drill, can i just go get a glass bit and drill it myself?

No, no chlorine-it's well water. I think I'd mentioned that earlier in the thread but neglected to mention it in the post you quoted.
The majority of us are on city chlorine/chloromine water. That's what I really miss...At my last place, in Washington, we were on city water with no additives... it was great...

you can run "hang on the tank overflows....

or

drill the tank...you just have to decide what size bulkheads you are going to run....then go to Harbor Freight, they carry diamond tipped holesaws...

i believe there are corner overflow kits you can buy and install while the tank is empty.. though im not sure. i would check into that before drilling. also, is the tank glass tempered? if so i dont believe you can drill it, it will just shatter into little spider pieces..

im not sure, my tanks are acrylic, and the hubby and i drilled the top of one-it took an eternity because you need to go sloooow lol.

i use the sump for biological filtration.. and my fx5 is for mechanical.. it has purigen, ceramic rings and the outer filters..

It is glass, not sure if its tempered, and not sure how to tell. But it sounds like I would definitely want to know before drilling.
