neervana, didnt you post this topic while back. I posted on your post, have the same problem. when the fish is fed, they stay in, otherwise it looks like exploding white confetti down there. Please let us know how the meds went. unfortunately micro is housed with an asian arrow and medicating will require another holding tank... one that I dont have at the moment.

yes, i did - but that was another thread for another group of micros! that's why im thinking that all wild caught micros have tapeworm...only reasonable explanation as they ALL had it but came from different LFS's.

did you treat the tank? has it had any affect?
just wondering if it would be like worming dogs, you treat the dog and they poop the dead worms out. i dont really know how long the treatment take to work, wether its a few hours or you need to leave them for a week.

this is the treatment

yea I suppose that would make sense but mine's not wild caught, it was made in china. and the worms didnt appear from day one.

went on business and came back, he hadn't been fed for 4 days. no worms. I think when the fish is not fed, the worms come out leave the host looking for food or other hosts.

share with you my uneducated speculation: in the wild, i suppose the fish may loose it's appetite, the worms eventually leave the host. being a much larger body of water, the probability of catching eggs again is lower and the fish has a chance to "purge" the worms n' get better. in a captive environment we keep feeding the fish/worms, and they keep multiplying. i believe after a while the fishes belly will swell and it'll kill the host.

He's still hungry and very active. month and bit to go and i can treat him in a seperate tank.

LFS here say that asian arrows can't take any sort of medication. Not feeling too brave, but understand the rest are also at risk. Guess if that's the case, will take the chance then.

in anycase it's best to kill the worms. I hear that it's very contagious. Please wash your hands and avoid contact with the water.

noooooooo :( is that true? cos i cant reach into my tank so i had to climb on a chair and push both my arms into the tank and stuff...with no gloves....

any news? im sure it should of worked by now if it was going to. sorry if it hasent worked.

hi
i kept 3 micros for a couple of years and had them all from babies and each one was from a different lfs, none of them had worms but i dont know if they where wild caught or captive bred?anyway they all ended up being well over the 2ft mark and got way to aggressive.they were trying to attack my dog through the tank glass.
had to move them on.
good luck with the worms hope it all works out for you

My understanding on tapeworms would say just the opposite. What you saw coming out of the fish was the eggs that it was laying. The tapeworm will live off of its host until the host stops providing nutrients. At that point it will die. There is no reasoning behind them. They simply serve the purpose of procreating. They never leave unless treated/killed.

Larger volumes of water will reduce the possibility of it spreading.

i medicated my tank as you said, sharp tooth but it hasn't worked. i didnt feed the micros for two days and on the third day i saw it hanging out then it went back in again. the micro who has tapeworm has become very itchy when after i put the meds in..i dunno...it keeps on flasing and trying to peel its skin off. eyes have also gone really cloudy. like one eye is cloudy the other is clear. something is wrong with that fish...i'm not sure what it could be but holes have also started appearing on its scales. after i saw it flashing i took it out of the micro tank and put it in another tank. more and more holes are appearing...no change in colour or anything...just like someone's taken a needle and put holes in playdough. that's what it looks like. have no idea what it could be...have tested water..no ammonia...water stats are fine...temp is fine...micro appears to have weakened considerably and no longer swims around the tank but hovers at the surface. whatever it has, the other micros do not have because they appear to be perfectly healthy, good thing this one is isolated in another tank. would take pics for you lot but tried that already and the holes on the micro are too tiny for it to show up on my pics. dunno what else to do?

well im dunno what to say, i bought some myself for my ray tank and treated that tonight. one looked dodgy so i water changed 50% straight away. everything is fine now.

that treatment is ment to be the safest you can get! did you read the website? its for discus so snakeheads should have no worries at all. ive been told nothing but good things about it thats why i used it in my ray tank tonight, but i wasent happy so did a WC. have you done a WC on the tank?

did you put the other one in fresh water with no treatment? if not ide put that one in water with no treatment init and do a WC on the main tank.

im so sorry if it has caused this which it sounds like it has. get the stuff out asap.
