Not too serious but i always worry for my fish, so i just bought a ray motoro pup about 5 inches a month or 2 ago. He eats great and eats variety but sometimes i see him scoot back and flip forwward. But not flip but like spazing out forward. Then he does it again. After a little bit he goes back to normal. He is in a 100 galllon growout tank with a jar arowana. Water chemicals are normal, with a 50-70 percent water change every 2 weeks. Anny idea? :irked:

i think you need to make your water changes weekly not fortnightly.....

in a 100g, there's not enough water volume for those fish to be going that long without water changes.
2 retics alone in a 90g when they were pups had me needing to do at least 50% water changes 2 times a week.

Yeahn you have been given good advice. If it was me I would prolly hit 50 percent wcs once or twice a week in the 100. Rays arent the same as most fish. They make alot of ammonia

I always heard a arowana of any type can go with a ray. I seen him attack my ray a couple times but they are getting used to each other. Ummm i can't really post a video. hard to catch him do it as he doesn't do it often, maybe like once a week or once a couple weeks. But i am gone 7 and back 9 am so i see him most of the days.

So more WC... i'll try that. Or is it okay that i do a 100 percent water change every 2 weeks? Like whenever i test my water it is like perfect condition but i still do wc every 2 weeks. most of the time i go down to 75 percent. WC are for the crap and chemicals right? so if my chemicals are always natural then i don't need to do a water change. Just asking for info even if the chemicals are neutral i would still do a water change.

My asian aro tortured my poor rays and forced me to get a pond. Your jar is prolly gonna do the same if not worse. I think you need to read a lil more about how water in a fish tank works. Waterchanges are good for numerous reasons as you can find on this website. You should monitor your nitrate level as well as the other 3 obvious parameters. people have success doing water changes every two weeks. Not my cup of tea. There are reasons that doing a 100 percent wc can be bad for your fish as well. Lots of grfeat info to read on mfk. Search option works great.... Good luck

kk wat if i add lots of plants and do the same wc every 2 weeks. Right know i don't c him dancing around. He is still begging for food and sometimes swims up but not on the side of the glas like actually swimming around the tank. I just saw him do that today. He went up a rock i have in and plays with the bubbles and sort of glides down. Then he swims around and then after a couple hours he does it again. Is this normal behavior too or is the Water getting worse cuz i am changing it every week know. 50 percent every week.

seriously, if you're going to be keeping sensitive fish, you need to do your water changes, no skimping out or procrastinating. figure out a way to do 2 50% changes a week, as that would be less stressful on your fish that a 100% (how would you even do that with fish in the tank? i hope you don't net them out into containers while you do this)

unless you're running a large sump, i can guarantee your filtration is underpowered for that long of a haul without clean water. you continue skimping and your fish will end up getting sick/dying.

do the responsible thing or get rid of the fish.

edit: as for plants, you won't fit enough plants in your tank to do much of anything, considering the ray needs to be able to swim on the ground without clutter and will be uprooting all of your plants just for fun.
