Jack fish... You know I dont know why we call northern pikes that we just do my dad was from Saskatchewan and thats what he always called them so thats what I learned. Hey Natureboy71 have you ever heard them called that? or anyone else for that matter.

in the uk we call small pike (E. Lucius/northern pike) under 12lb jacks or jack pike. i think the reason is because all the biggest pike are females. so most smaller pike will be male fish. i.e. jacks

Wow that seems like a really good reason. This is Kinda Random but my cusin in Sask Shot one with a spear gun that was 25lbs

I don't feel so embaresed for being wrong look how similar they are

You shouldn't feel embarrassed, all the Esox species look fairly similar, especially to the untrained eye.
For what it's worth I've heard pike referred to as Jacks as well.

:cry:thats a waste... id love a 25lb pike on rod and line. still to each their own. im pretty sure you have more where it came from though...:)

it sucks by me. the local lake i fish has almost no pike left in it. all the older match anglers kill them as they eat all the tench, bream, small carp, and silverfish species... but will complain when the lake is over-run with sick, dying, or deformed fish. basically any fish the pike would of picked of.

some people are just set in their ways.... it annoys me sometimes.:irked:

alot a times i'll just call (pickeral) pike but will be quick to correct myself when im a around a person that knows his fish. Here in new jersey there is only a few spots that you can catch n.pike and musky.however the pickeral will be in 7 out of 10 lakes in new jersey.i catch atleast 500 bass every season, and thats a low estimate.pickeral im good for atleast 100 a fishing season.yellow persch i'll say atleast 20 -30 a season.everything else that i catch on a lure like crappie, trout, sunnies, and etc......I'll say 10 -20 cuz i mainly go for bass and pickeral

Man up in northern Saskatewan there are some many untouched Lakes. the Lake my cusin shout that Jack out of I had heard of at least 3 bigger ones. Including a 48lber. theres a saying that If you viseted a different lake every day for your entire life you would never see them all. I'm telling you man If you ever want to do some great pike fishing and Walleye and many other thing look for a fly in fishing guide. heard its incredible.

I don't have pics, wish I did, but last summer we caught some yellow perch in a pond near our house. We aslo had some pretty types of pumkinseed sunfish. Had just gotten a 125 gallon to house our channel cat so we figured we would put the yellow perch and sunfish in, at the time we didn't know what the yellow perch were so we had to look them up on google, unfortunately they all had black spots on them and when we learned that this was some type of parasite we had to remove them all and of course we worried that our other fish would get it but they never did... The yellow perch were such nice fish good sized too I think they were about 7-9 in..
looked soemthing like this
Oh yea had many striped bass too and the oscar had them all coraled into the corner of the tank lol he was only 5 in.

but with many black spots on them...
The black dots do no harm you should have kept them. Almost all the sunfish and perch have little black dots on them here in MI. It dosnt harm the fish in any way.
