They're sleeping in a back room...It's non-stop.

The first day I learned about all the systems. What tanks are plumbed together, where all the sumps are, etc. I did water testing for a good couple hours, checking the temperature, salinity, pH, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates. Then spent another couple hours cleaning filter socks and protein skimmers. With all the dust and particulates in the air these are needing to be changed/cleaned everyday. We got in a shipment of fish (some badass blue spotted stingrays for the touch tank among others) so they all had to be drip acclimated and moved around. You know it's a good order when you have to take a U-haul to go pick it up. Also spent some time trying to hand feed several of the tanks, as we need the fish to come up and eat from peoples hands.

Yesterday was plumbing, plumbing, plumbing. We're working on the jellyfish system, so we had to plumb a bunch of tanks to pumps, sump, skimmers, chillers etc. Also cut some 2" thick acrylic which was interesting. Got in another order of fish as well, I'm pretty sure we'll be getting fish every day for a while. Lastly I had to go wading in the shark and ray tank to chisel down the drain level a bit as the water level was too high. Several of the rays are now accustomed to hand feeding, as we're working on that as well.

It's pretty hectic and everything is going a mile a minute leading up to opening day.

Yeah I saw the blue spotted rays on FB and they are pretty badass. Sounds like things are crazy. I'm still jealous you get to be a part of this from the ground up, what a cool experience. Have they started the FW exhibits yet? Let me know if I can help in any way.

Jamie your in the pic they just posted on FB helping treat rays for parasites. Thats so cool!

Haha, yeah I am. Got doused with Prazi water from the rays too...it was fun netting the five rays out of the main tank and I learned a lot about parasites.

Not a single freshwater tank yet as far as I know. I'm pushing hard for a Salmonid/Oregon native/cichlid tank. Plumbed a bunch more today. Got the blue ring octopus tank up and running (crazy cool custom acrylic tank so he can't escape) and we're working on the jellyfish tanks. Cold water tide pool (in an old boat) is functional as well. I ran to the silicone store (yes there is such a thing) and blew $600 on silicone...

Frankly, if you want to help the best bet would be to just show up and say "give me something to do!". There are so many projects going on at once an extra set of hands is always useful. I assume you can just make it on the weekends? I'm there 8-5 during the week right now and could put you to work plumbing if you reaaaaaalllllly wanted too. The more fun volunteering will be once it settles down a bit. It's a learning experience
