not a brand war. Fx5 and fx6

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't drop any ball, waiting for next powerbill as he said he wanted to know how much I am charged in kilowatt hours, I figured anyone could search the watt for the fx6

So you want others to do the work to get you the answer to the question YOU asked. Guess you didn't drop the ball, cause you never had any intention of carrying it.

So anyhow the FX5 draws 50 watts http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Media/PDF/25754-FluvalFX5FilterManual.pdf vs the 43 watts of the FX6. We'll just use a price of 10 cents per kilowatt hour. So it would cost $37.67 per year to operate the FX6 vs $43.80 to run the FX5. At 15 cents it would be $56.50 vs. $65.70

When your talking 50kw vs 43 who really cares!! Both units to me are basically the same with a few changes in the FX6.. Its called marketing and its probably working for them by the sounds of it, or the FX5s price would be dropping like a rock. Ever wonder why they still offer the FX5 instead of discontinuing it? Because they like your money..

I honestly didn't know you could figure out the price of cost that precise. Other guy asked what I get charged on power bill. Idk you wanted me to see and post both filters wattages. Jeez I didn't have a ball to start with apparently

So I'm crazy?

FX5 is designed to handle up to 400g tanks..in reality we cut that on almost half (~250g)... So overstocked 125g should be a piece of cake for this filter :)

Dials on FX6..does anyone really needs them?

Fx5 and fx6 - Imo, why the hell all that foam? There are many much better filter media then foam - filter itself is rather cheap - why not to put in it better stuff? With 100$ higher price, you can get one really great biological fitration..instead of foams..

get a sump with a dc pump, less power and better filtration. boom :)

Please supply me with a couple brands of these pumps.

Get an Eheim 2262. Problems solved. Lower power consumption, higher capacity, higher media volume (19 liters vs 6 + sponges). More than twice the filter for only 75% more. Also it's more reliable (pump on top) and more versatile.

I had my heart set on a eheim filter but got an offer on the fx6 (trade price) i couldnt refuse my mate hooked me up big time , there is a lot of sponge that's never been needed in my fx5 and the dials are pretty pointless , but i was impressed with my fx5 so im hoping for the same result seeing as its basically the same filter , oh yes and I do prefer the orange and grey colour of the fx5 if im being fussy hahaha :D

Gotta have a DC power source, if converting AC to DC then there will be no savings in power.

I did some research and DC pumps do exist. They are for the rich saltwater guys.
