Let me first address the cause of "pyramiding" in tortoises. It has been found that the lack of a moist hide or burrow is often the cause of this.
As far as the Herman's tortoise not eating, most often all the Mediterrian tortoise species will have a period of inactivity through out the cooler, and hotter months in warmer climates. A sudden change in weather conditions will surely throw a tortoise off food. Try to keep the enviroment as stable as possible, and he/she will be back on food in no time.

Do not stress out at the refusal to feed, they can go months without eating.

can you explain how that happens?

told you :D
Mine puts her head up when the shower goes on and really loves it. It's her little treat. Will check that link out. As far as I have read and been told, Food is the main cause of pyramiding. My tortoise has nothing other than a sutiable water bowl and the odd shower .. so it's weird her shell isn't pyramiding if thats the cause?

What do you do when you shower yours?

I put her a bath with a few millimeters, then get the right temp for her on the shower, put it on her shell then work the way up to her head, and she'll pop her head in at first then put it right up. I'll keep it still there for about 5 mins, then start flicking it over her, then after about 3 mins of that, I'll shower her lil crevices in her shell lol, like were her legs and head and tail is which is loves, she stretches her legs out. If shes muddy I will clean her shell gently with a toothbrush, then Ill make the water cooler, repeat it, and put her under a heat lamp. :)

Ok, i'll give it ago laters. I'm hoping to be getting a nice male for her in a month or two when i've got some Money.

let us know how it goes. Boggy if your going to get a male your going to have to get another female too. You wont be able to breed them till there 10 years +

Let me clarify my statement. I was explaining that the lack of humidity in a tortoise's enclosure was a cause for pyramiding, when proper dietary/husbandry requirements are already being met.

I really don't know exactly what steps BogWood takes towards proper husbandry. I just assume he is taking proper care to the best of his knowledge. I was trying to explain to the others, who responded with their explinations of pyramiding.

If you'd like pyramiding explained a little further, follow this link:

I'm not really trying to breed them, i just wanted a companion for her. I used to keep my Horsefields in a pair and i think they seemed happier like that.
