Not liking my tank stands color anymore

Stain it if you got the time, because then it looks more like an expensive piece of furniture. If that's not an option then go with black. Any other color just takes away from the tank.
 
Black, because it is the presence of all color,
and
If the wood isn't all matched grain and the trim is a different type, it doesn't look right.
If you don't have furniture grade wood, paint it a solid color of black...;)
 
Here's what I did with a used stand I bought. It had been painted solid matte brown (yuck). My husband took the belt sander and randomly sanded the flat areas, just here and there-whatever. Then I went over the whole thing with walnut stain. It turned out different looking but I really like it (the canopy matches). You could do the same thing with yours and use either stain or watered down paint that matched the red. Just an idea.
