you mean like this stand I built?:D Just tryin to keep these cheap for now. It's goin in my basement. Gotta save my money to buy filters and fishies lol
dang man, thats about as tight as it gets without paying a cabinet maker, nice work

No it has six legs, which will all support the weight. The legs are “toenailed” with wood screws and are sandwiched in-between the top and bottom board for equal weight distribution between the legs. The whole purpose of this design is that the screws only hold the vertical supports in place all of the load bearing is on wood to wood contact. which in my opinion is better than any type of fastening except maybe a rabbit joint which is the same principle. A ½” sheet of plywood will then be laid on top along with a ¾” lip around the edge, which really isn’t needed. Really people should never use nails when woodworking IMO unless you are talking about “Brads”, that’s the lazy mans way of putting things together.

im sure it will hold weight, but i would think the way you have it and being toe nailed,it could tip over easy.
glad its going to be in your basement lol
i would at least add plywood on the back and one side,or just screw some 2x4s at an angle on the back and one side.
is it worth tempting to lose a tank and fish?
i always like to over do it.
im sure 4 2x2s with elmers glue and finish nails would hold it. lol
just trying to help.toe nail isnt strong, its just to hold it in place, not good for strength.:D

I see what you're saying so there is really no point in being a smarta$$ about it. I have built stands like this before and never had them fail. The whole point of this stand is to make it cheap and easy to build. If my floor or the aquarium is sitting on an uneven surface in my basement I will reinforce it more. But until I find that out it is fine by me the way it is. If my aquarium falls over I will bow down to you and call you the god of woodworking ok. It really is very sturdy and I can not make it flex at all by me pushing on it. Maybe for my next one I will make it like a truss on a bridge for you and bolt it to my wall and hang cables from my ceiling to connect to the aquarium to take some of the load off of the stand and whatever else you fell I should do. Maybe I will make it out 8x8 lumber.

Sorry for now sounding like a jerk. I am fine with constructive criticism but when somebody starts being a smarta$$ I don't like it:irked:

Looks great, nice and sturdy,I wouldnt worry about tipping or collapsing as long as its plumb and level.
and the cabinet stand you built looks top notch:thumbsup:
