Not very aggresive

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have 11 baby reds, and the first day i got them they started eating infront of me?? maybe its because theirs so many of them ..confendece in #'s, and ya when someone walks in tha room, they dash behind the tank, but a few seconds later they come back, like someone else said just spend a lot of time in front of your tank..

P's are a great fish, but they aren't what i'd call particularly agressive fish, even as adults. When they are older and have confidence in their pack, when you throw food in they will devour it almost instantly, and that combined with their mean look, is what you'll eventually get. They can be a bit skittish to start with, but generally become a lot braver if they have somewhere to hide, even if its just a few plants.

i have already started to notice that in the last week with me looking at them so much they are starting to come around especially if i leave the lights off and i will continue to leave them off till i get a darker substrate mine is a little bright right now thank you you are right patience is key with these little guys.

if you feed them properly they shoal quite well...

mine get the odd fin nip, but they never look 'all bitten or beat up' like your sayin...

to each his own thou...

i love my guys like they were my kids...

X2 They are my little FAT KIDS

yeah, keep more and they are way more active. i have 9 of them and couldn't be happier with them. a lil skittish when others walk in the room but they always come back out n around. all my friends say the same thing tho, "i thought they were piranhas, why are they always scared". they jus don't kno n they go off the hype. when they are older tho, im sure their fear will be minimum and they will always be ready to eat. they never wait when i feed them, they continue to eat til the foods gone, they always eat in front of me jus seconds after i throw it in. even with lil feeders. but once i throw in a big fish like my friends dieing arowana, they freaked out n went crazy. it took them over 12 hours to finish it off only cuz the aro wasn't moving.

any pics of the little guys inspectahdeck?
:)

but yeah, you sound like your doing everything right so far, so you should have a fearsom shoal in no time...

mine are about 5-7" right now, and will pull the food right out of my fingers as i put it in the water...
when my 8" guy is hungry, he simply comes right to the serface, the last few time i have pretty much just put put food into a waiting open piranha mouth that sits right at the serface, like i say, they sure grow on ya...:D

all the best with them...
