If it's a wet/dry all you need to do is pull out the prefilter while it's running I never look at anything other than the top of the tank when I'm doing filter work.

There is probably a release pin or something on the side that would allow you to lift it manually. Just guessing.

It was attached some how... which means it's got to come off the same way

Personally I don't see a market for it unless your fish is so ugly you'd rather show your filter system instead of it....

i think it would be good for the hood. not stand front tho...... maybe on the hood so u dont have to lift it up over and over again
