Nuchal humps

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
LMFAO! You call that a hump? Sorry, thats more like a bump than a hump. Good thing you're accepting how it is ;D

That's a really nice looking healthy male nic in it's prime. What's not to like?

Some SA/CAcichlids only fully mature after 2+ years, my guess is your little baby boy finally grew up. Yes they've been mating etc for a while now but that does not mean he (or your females) was fully mature.
Another prime example of this would be Vieja/Paratheraps species, yes even at a fairly young age they can mate, are very colorful , may even have a fair size hump. But anyone that knows V/P knows that the show doesn't truly begin untill they are 2-4 years old. Thats when the nuchal hump will hit it's max size, thats when the color will fully bloom, when fertility starts to peak....

In other words, if your nic were human he'd be on either his second marriage, second mortage, or both.

I must be odd or something, if there is a trait on one of my fish thats..hmm...less than beautiful to me I guess? It only serves to highlight the traits that are beautiful to me.

p.s. I believe all male nic's have a small nuchal hump, don't believe I've ever seen a fully mature male nic that didn't.

Thanks for the comments guys, CA and SA cichlids are still pretty new to me, I've done the africans for years (and avoided frontosa due to their humps). I do love my male nic (even if he is a jerk sometimes) so even if he is bumpy, like I said earlier, I'll get over it. I have to get over the sight of one anyway in case my melanurus is a male and not the female I'm hoping for.

GET OUT OF CICHLIDS IF YOU HATE HUMPS
No.
