Woh this is ganna be one MASSIVE bala if its just a baby and already at 13"!

this is all funny....and intriguing I must admit :) haha as i rant...picture! picture! picture! i'm joking, and this is definitely not to disregard anyone's true feelings on the matter. i'm actually glad to see this thread. i also thought that they were sold at local fish stores but i could be wrong. if it is true, either these stores are not carefully regulated or the fines are very low. either way, i plan on checking out the reference link. i would have bought one if i had the heart to set up a large saltwater tank (and yes, i know it would out grow the tank but no worries. i plan on getting one of those large tanks like on ace ventura pd:grinno: "thats not snowflake, thats not snowflake") again with the jokes...i know that i cant keep it until its full grown, which is probably the real reason that I have not made the efforts to set up a tank for one. but i do love them, and black tip reef sharks of course. goodluck with the nurse, i mean, bala, i mean catfish, i mean....aquatic animal whose primary way of locomotion is via fin propulsion.

okay. i'm not sure but i think i found the link to what was being mentioned about nurse sharks being illegally kept. http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/sfa/hms/Compliance_Guide/Rec/Rec_Compliance_Guide_Total.pdf
please let me know if this is right. i think that it is saying that if you are fishing for recreation, that most sharks would have to be thrown back if under the minimum size "MINIMUM SIZES
Most authorized species of sharks that may be kept recreationally have a
minimum size of 54 inches (4.5 feet) fork length, which is the straight-line
distance between the tip of the shark’s nose and the fork of the tail (see image
below). The only exceptions are for Atlantic sharpnose and bonnethead
sharks, which have no size limit. Sharks that are under the minimum size limit
cannot be possessed and must be released using a method that maximizes their
chance of survival, without removing them from the water." it also states that "Recreational fishermen must land sharks with the head, fins, and tail naturally
attached. Sharks may be gutted and bled by making an incision at the base of
the tail as long as the caudal (tail) fin is still naturally attached by at least a
small flap of uncut skin." so according to this, in catching a shark with the intentions of utilizing its body parts, a minimum size limit must be met. please let me know if i'm wrong. its late...i'm tired..and it took me too long to even find this. now i'm extremely curious to know.:WHOA:

Oh yeah just thinking this is Monster Fish Keepers and anybody who keeps or owns a pet
some how removed it from its natural environment some in a good cause and others not so. but if you are against this maybe you should be on Petrock.com

Hey Peru, I am a Marine Biologist. I work for NOAA in their HMS division. I am not part of their Law Enforcement Division, but the guy who's desk is in my cubicle is part of their Law Enforcement Division.

I VERY politely cautioned you that you needed to keep this sale off a public forum, and informed you of the laws you were breaking. Now you are insulting me. FYI your phone number is posted in the first post, reverse white pages has already given me your cell provider and the city of your residence. From there it will only take someone with with Law Enforcement power to get your address.

Are you sure you want to play this game? Knowingly possessing and marketing of an illegally federally regulated fish...... You really should have closed and deleted this thread when you were informed. Our fisheries guys in Michigan don't much see action, this might be the biggest bust they have had in months!

For specimens illegally brought into the pet trade, this is all you need to know.
