O.M.G. Check out this pleco!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hope he coes down in price....very nice but very expensive but hey if its what you want get it!

dat's a Hypostomus leutus. A pleco dat is much in demand here in Asia. And definitely costs more than a zebra. Value is subjective, if u like it then it's worth it. It's worth it IMO. Bought two before. Great looking fish and easy to keep. One of the most beautiful plecos around. :)
P.S. that is a real gd specimen. Nice high dorsal and almost full yellow body.

Stiff, it was not so much the colouration, it was more that on the shot you posted, you could not see the huge dorsal fin, and the armour formation looked different.

Looking at the link though, yeah it's one of those ;)

Why are they so much if they are not that rare?

The pleco is hypostomus luteus they just had the latin name spelled wrong on tank. I can't remember the L# though. You should be able to google it.

$700.00 is alot. I have seen ones that are about foot go for 500.00.

Its definately H. luteus. It doesn't have an "L" number because the species was described in 1980.

Thats definately a large specimine, but $700.00 is pretty damn high, even though 3-5" pieces will sell for a couple hundred dollars.

I think the high price tag coincides with the yellow-black and black-yellow color morph that the fish will display. Same situation as Parancistrus aurantiacus, which will morph from black to yellow and vice-versa. Anyone thats kept plecos will know the high price of a "xanto".:D

they have something very similar to that here at my lfs for a little over $100.

Hypostomus Luteus is a very expensive pleco. Amazing colors are possible, given the right settings. This species has a wide variety of morphs. FYI Waldo said he can now get them, and for about half that cost if I remember correctly.

It's an impressive looking fish, but I'm with jay, I would not spend more than $100 (£50) on it.

I find most of the medium/large predatory catfish far more interesting than plecos.

Part of their lack of appeal to me is their lack of predatory-ness ;)
