x2... i'd be furious

Don't take this the wrong way...this is just my opinion.
I thought about this for a while and I'm trying to put the shoe on the other foot.... If this was to happen to me.
The fish, the tank, and the supplies are all replaceable. You should be more concerned and thankful that he didn't get hurt. Just think how you would feel if you came home and your little boy was in the hospital with major cuts from the glass. He knows he did wrong, and I'm sure he is sorry for what he did. He was just trying to be like his daddy, who he loves and want to grow up to be like.
Now be a stand up Dad, and take him to the circus. And give him his games back.
I know how devastated you are but just remember all the years you will have with your son and to watch him grow and be a stand up man like yourself.
It looks to me that your son is gonna be a fish keeper just like you!!! :)

True, glad he didn't get hurt. I must be a hard @ss because there would be consequences and there wouldn't be a way out of them, otherwise they will do it again. How old is your kid?

Wait...how old is he? If he's 2 years or older, YOU should have been teaching him not to put things in the tanks.
Not jumpin' on ya. Just saying. I've had my tanks since before my daughter was born and she was taught as soon as she was old enough to understand that the tanks were not toys. In fact, I got her involved in maintenance asap.
To those of you who would "kill your kid," WTH is wrong with you? They're kids for God's sake! Kids do stupid things.
Flame away! :)

I think you did the appropriate thing with the punishment, and thankfully he didnt get hurt, but he'll learn his lesson not to mess with the tanks after this! I have a 7 and 14 year old and they well know that the tanks are sacred in the house!!!! The 150 gal just went up in the livingroom and they don't even wrestle in the livingroon anymore! I did the your grounded, no texting no video games no skateboarding and even no TV, so they know if they do without thinking it might cost them their fun stuff! I think its tougher when they are younger than 5 though I must admit! But they learn and might even get into fish keeping and realize why there were restrictions. My 14 year old has his own tank and is raising his own arowana and sevs, my 7 year old has exotic hermit crabs!

As for your fish and plants, sorry this had to happen, been there and it freaking sucks, hope your set up comes along again the way you had planned!

yeah, kid problem! a few years a go my little brother take my 20 + inches pleco(I have it since it was 2 inches and took me 4 years to grow it that big) out of the tank and then he couldn't get it back into the tank. And the fish dryed out to death. he also made my kois jump out a lot of time.
