For those who owned obscuras that have been fed recently with a staple of feeders before purchase, how many of you had success converting the obscura to alternative foods?

Mine will still not take beef heart, hikari frozen blood worms, tilapia, market shrimp, and hikari floating pellets.

I've starved him for the past week or two I believe.

I want to train him to eat better foods, but how will I know, how long is too long?

Would channa die of starvation?

Some fish do, some fish dont, but I wanted to hear your opinion.

Hi,I never owned obscuras but I tried to starve my micropeltes for a few days but it did not work.I think that a two week starvation is enough, try now feeding it with new foods.

the 2 weeks still isnt enough =/

Would channa die of starvation? Yes, they can stop eating and die. Two weeks is a very long time for fish. Most channas are wild caught. For this reason, they can be very stubborn. You can push the limits or switch back to live. Try switching to guppies. This must be pretty frustrating for you.

hm I think he can survive another 2 weeks, but just my opinion. Piranhas can survive an entire month without food:D. Hopefully mr snakie will eat for me soon!

Try a earthworm, bet he takes it ;)

they can go well over two weeks , remember many snakeheads are mouth brooders , the fish that is holding does not eat in this period , he can easy go a month , but i would also try things from the bait shop , worms ect or try killing the feeders 1st to try and get him to accept dead food ,but something he allready assosiates as food , then try slowly introducing diferant food.

I have an Obscura. Even a neon can go two weeks with out food, you could easily go a month without feeding.

The way to do it is the introduce the current food one at a time to the point were your Obscura will hit it as it breaks the surface. Then substitute for dead items. Sprats and Mussels etc. Being a little bit hungry will help this process.

How big is your Obscura?
