6.) And most importantly if you don't want to respect every member of this forums opinion then I would suggest you not post any info that's arguable so you don't have to hear these comments. This is a public forum and yes there are varying opinions. Be mature and respect others opinions whether you like them or not.

My problem with this is that, you're right, this is a public forum. We should feel free to tell people that, "hey, i'm getting 3 dovii and I'm really excited", without being afraid that we'll be flamed to hell and back about it. We shouldn't be afraid to post something on this forum, and that seems to be what you're suggesting. People are going to keep flaming us, so we just better learn to deal with it.

Oh this brings back memories of the texas cichlids.
I used to get flamed about them all the time because tehy were living in 20 gal tanks which was never intended on my part.

Sometimes you definatly need the backstory.

These ciclhids who were sold to me as a species that grew eight inches long turned out to another species that grew twelve inches long. They were purchased for a 150 gal tank to live with convict cichlids, featherfins and a blue eyed pleco. They were attacking the other cihlids so badly they had two of "living" at the upper corner.
SO they had to be removed. I would have prefered to remove them directly and give them to someone else.
Problem is NOBODY wanted them. So I removed them both into a 20 gal isolation tank where they could stay while waiting for adoption, I considered this a holding tank for them.. At this point I had some adoptions going but none of the adoptions materilized and none actually came to pick up the fish.
A long time passed, they started fighting in the 20 gal at the six inch point so I put one in another 20 gal. Now I cannot breed any of my fish because my breeding tanks are tied up as bully fish tanks and I cannot wait for them to find homes.

I moved away and went to college. I felt bad for them and tried to get them a regular tank since it looked like they were going to be staying. I was forbidden to set up any new tanks from the parents. So nobody wanted these fish, I was forbidden to setup another tank for them.

So with much soul thinking I decided they'd be better off living out their lives in individual 20 gal tanks and the other solution was to euthanize them.
I did NOT want to have twelve inch fish living in 20 gal tanks and I continued to offer them for adoption whenever I went to visit my parents.
Should I have euthanized them?...I guess I did what I could and thought was best for the situation.

Some people feel 24"Silver aros can live in a 75 or Rtc's can live in 2' wide aquariums. Their famous excuse is "I am going to upgrade" but in the mean time they usually buy more potentially huge fish to stuff into their already crowded tiny aquariums and show them off on web boards. People just seem to be selfish, the " I want this fish and I don't care about anything else" type attitude.

Even though I feel this behaviour is completely wrong and potentially abusive and defiantly amoral I am going to make an effort not to comment on these types of threads anymore.

That's an excellent point. Which brings me to the underlying problem. People on here are making these statements, ie that tank isn't big enough, without knowing ANYTHING about the person who has the fish. I hate to keep using my friend as an example, but he's a very good example. He has a few fish in his 55. They're all babies, pretty much. His tanks are not overstocked now. He knows it would be stocked when they're full grown.

He's very knowledgeable of fish
Not a great financial situation, but reasonable
He's very dedicated to his fish

It seems that a lot of people are making assumptions about somebody before they know everything, which is why I call them the people that ride their high horse.

Detication............where????????? It seems like every month Dovii88 has different fish stockpiled in his 55g. What happen to all those fish, back to the store I guess. But either way detication is not the case with him period.

Coming from a LFS employee point of view, I wouldnt count on the store taking back large fish all the time. In the town where I work , which is no small berg, there are many chain stores but only two independant stores that even deal in trading anything back in . The chains will sell you anything, then wont take it back and 2 small LFs 's only have so much room. We turn down outgrown monsters weekly and our trade in tanks usually are full. I have no idea what happens to the ones we dont take , I know a few ended up in dumpsters which is a terrible waste.

Oh, Lord! Not again!! One of these threads is more than enough of a Christmas present for me.

Would it be asking for the moon if I request that everyone remain civil in this one?
Merry Christmas Oddball !!!

Ben 540 it seem to be your hobby lately to start highly contraversial and drama threads :D Whats the title to the next one :)

Its your fish tank and you should be able to do what you want with it. Dont let other people tell you what to do.

I brought up an issue with idiots on the board. I'm pretty sure I'm allowed to do that. I'm sure a lot of people have been chased away by the method some people use.
