Observation: Get off your high horses

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not gonna say what has been said already, but thought I'd mention that info posted in a thread may not be intended only for the thread starter but also for the others just reading the thread. There might be some person out there that wasn't aware that dovii outgrow 55's and may have learned something, even if the the thread starter already knew. I know this repetitive information can be annoying, but if it's repetitive to you, just look at it as information out there for others to read. If it's a personal attack though, then that's of course a different story.

Just so you all know, we have been in the chatroom for over 4 hours without a single flame. It's great, please come and join us.

Fine. Then, DON'T ASK FOR OPINIONS IN A PUBLIC FORUM!!!

O no my tank is not over stocked. I dont want them to be. I use the opinions about other things.

One of the things I have learned through the years, is that most masters of their craft, do not have to defend their reasons or methods and do not take offense to criticism, good or bad.
If you are secure in your methods, then even 100 posts, stating what seems obvious, shouldn't bother you at all.

To me, it looks like a great way for information to get to those who don't know, and arn't so savy...repetition of data, said in different ways, is sure to make it available to all that seek it, especially to those that don't even know the questions to ask.

Emotions, other than the love of fish and fishkeeping, really shouldn't dictate any post. We as fishkeepers have a responsibility to provide the best possible care for these capive animals.
Even if it means not adding or trading for that much desired sample.

Our purchases should be well thought out.
Size and species of fish, tankmates
tank requirements filration and upkeep.
Then there is food requirements, medicines etc...

I belive if you can justify your actions and are honestly comfortable, then have at it...
but remember it is YOUR justification and no one should expect others to have the same view and opinion, especially when their experience and years at their craft, prove different.

When I found MFK, I was captivated by the Masters that gather at this community...And it is really easy to tell who they are by the expert help and discussions they participate in.
A true Master is always learning, and knows there is always more to learn...and is willing to share this knowledge...

Save the whine for dinner, I'll take the true knowledge and help any day, and be thankful that MonsterFishKeepers.com is alive and well... :D

Beautiful choice of words. Great message there, that all should read.

To add, how do you think those that constantly have to put up the same info feel. I know that reading the same thing gets old, but think about those that post the same info again and again. I know I get sick of posting the same thing about the basics of a planted tank... maybe I should write something up to fix that... :screwy: But I post it because I know that if one person gains something from it, then it has done it's purpose.

Something which I have recently noted since I've begun visiting certain forum sections lately, is the pompous attitudes of a few people on here. If somebody says they have Tank A with Fish A + B, these people make it their business to inform the person that their tank will be overstocked in the near future. Guess what. THEY KNOW THAT!!!! If we have a certain fish, then I would assume that most of us would be aware of the size these fish get. However, members like to put it out there, quite frequently, while at the same time, in most case, berating or belittling another member for an immediate response. The first example that comes to mind, is the CA/SA section. Give that section a visit, and you'll see that it's overrun by those people. My friend on here, Dovii88, purchased some dovii. He has a 55 gallon. He knows about fish. He knows that the 55 isn't big enough to house them for life. We're all aware of that. You're not a genius for telling us they get to big or immediately asking where are we going to put them. I could make this a lot longer but I doubt most of you will read past the first few lines, so for those of you that constantly offend, we're aware of the situation. Thanks.

Apprentices(construction), recruits(military), and interns.....I guess the newcomer for the fish hobby is called the, "newbie."There is, and always will be a steady stream of newbies....Just be grateful there is....From the looks of it, the fish hobby is only getting bigger....Once and a while it nice to know that there are O.G.'s(orignal groundsmen) voicing themselves....It shows to where the newbie could be at(mentally, emotionaly) in a few years down the road, lol....

Okay, time for me to chime in,
I am one who also does not like the way 1 0r 2 dozen people will state the same thing, such as "that tank is overstocked", especially since many get more inflammatory as the thread goes.
That being said, there are a couple reasons this happens,
first people tend to be dogmatic on forums like this one, perhaps the phrasing could be that "in their opinion", or "given that information, the tank seems overstocked".
The second (and probably most common reason) is that many people do not read the whole thread, only the beginning of it.
One other point is that many members are newbies, so sometimes the comments are well meant, such as a member who was not new to fishkeeping but new to the species and got a very nice deal on several Bagarius yarellis about 8" long, to put in a fairly large tank, he was not aware that they can reach 6 1/2' pretty quickly and are very aggresive eaters.
Now, as to using tanks for grow outs, I know I do, A 3" peacock bass looks pretty silly alone in a 280g.
I have also made a bit of money growing out balas and angels for pet store trade, but what needs to be remembered here is that you need to check that the store will actually buy or trade back the larger fish, many don't (can't) because of the slower sales raste on the large fish.
The other thing that irritates me about threads in which people disagree is that some members forget that manners count, there is NO REASON to call people names, NONE.

Geez there is some whingers around. Yes it gets abit annoying people telling your overstocked or whatever else your whinging about but thats your problem. If you dont like it fix the problem or stop going back to the thread again.
If they arent Pming you then stop crying and stop going back to the thread.
And maybe fix your tank and whatever you got hassled for and you wont get hassled anymore. Most of the flaming is directed at people who are waaaay overstocked and the idiots who know there overstocked but keep ignoring those responses hoping someone else will tell them its ok to keep there RTC in a 10 or whatever.
Those people deserve to be flamed.
