Obtaining a Piranha permit in NY

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm waiting on a definite answer from the department. The site says the license application is free and the permit, if awarded, is $10. I'm waiting on a confirmation of cost and if there's an annual renewal fee.

Thats weird that they dont allow them in NY, we have them all over lfs here in Michigan and Ohio.

I watched a show where some guys came and confiscated some in New York and donate them to a public exhibit. They were bein all dramatic about it, saying stuff like "they can strip that child down to nothing if she were to accidently stick her hand in or fall in". lol. It was hilarious

^ i actually came across something similar for a cites permit. but the application fee was like 50 bux or something. i did say about your "pet" and asking infos bout it.

Actually I don't think its very funny they sayn it could strip a childs arm if they stuck it in there. Its misinformation like this that the public believes.some of that public might be my or your city officials that decide our laws.

there are only 3 genera of piranha that require a permit in ny.

Serrasalmus sp.
Pyrocentrus sp.
Rooseveltiella sp.

permits are issued for scientific, biological, or exhibition only. No permit is required for piranhas not belonging to the genera listed above.
