Why do you think they produce 3 times more waste??
I dont get how they can make more waste then a similar sized predator eating the same amount.
And like you said they should really be kept in a tank on there own anyway so as long as the tank is big enough for a few similar sized fish you should have no troubles keeping it clean.
they don't :)... it pay to be educated on the subject before adding a post.. but they can't deal with nitrates this is what makes them a bit harder to keep and trying not to spook them so they don't ink up the tank

i dive and catch octopus to make tako poke...its basicall raw octipus and shoyu(soy sauce) green onions chili pepper water and...never mind and who...i have caught some with bodies/heads as big as mine and put them in a custom 5gal bucket with .5 inch holes in the lid and the base for water to flow while i swam to surface and shore with the lids master locked down and the still get out everynow and then...they can hudini stuff like you wont believe...good luck

I still would never suggest one for the privat aquarist. Too many risks.
Sorry to say, but with 14 posts and a comment like "Trust me, we used to keep them at my store" - sounds sketchy. Any more background info to offer other than that?

What risks, Zoodiver?

I've kept O. Bimaculoides. I never had a problem keeping him, and he made a terrific pet. Very intelligent and very fun to watch. Like what has already been said many times, they need good water quality and a tight fitting lid. They are also terrific hunters, so a species tank is necessary. As long as you are careful with how you set up the tank and how you maintain it, you shouldn't have a problem. If you want more answers from experienced cephalopod keepers, check out tonmo.com.
