I set up the tank about a month ago but haven't added any fish yet. I've owned the wood for years and used it in other tanks but I've never seen anything like this. Can someone ID what's on the wood and if is harmful to fish? I'm ready to get it stocked.

Only water treatment I've done is dechlorinator. I added live bacteria today in anticipation of adding fish but it did not contribute to the growth.

its just an algae-like growth, I get it on almost every piece of dw I put in a tank. it will either go away on its own as the tank establishes or if you have grazing fish they'll handle it. harmless otherwise.

I've had driftwood do this before. I don't think it harms anything. You could just rinse the pieces off if your wanting to.

I've got that on a bit of wood that gets constant light, its a bit of an eyesore; if you get a bristlenose plec, or otocinclus (I believe); they should gobble it up.
