of pimelodus and their lives denied.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've grown up blochii with two wild caught oscars over the last year. Oscars are now 8" and the blochii are between 6-8" they seem to keep the growth up. Had no issues with mixing them.

...What of the ornate pimelodus? any good experiences with them? what's a definite max size on these guys? any good breeders or distributors that sell these fish online? I saw they are sometimes available on bluegrass aquatics, but for at least 35 each.

******They are fun but IME my pair hides way too much for my taste in 240 gal. Grow much slower than blochii. $35 is a good price. They are usually $50 or more. They say a shoal of at least 5-6 would do better. If you get them tiny, your oscars will still make the work of them.

I'd considered a lima shovelnose but am not crazy about one or two huge cats in my 240. I'd much rather have a shoal of nice active bottom feeders that can still hang with my cichlids.

******There are good suggestions above by Moe. Or browse the PCF Cat-eLog.

threads a little outdated for my situation lol. i no longer have the 240 or the oscars.

i do have a jaguar and false jaguar cat in one of my 75s. i like them best of any cat so far.

I had an ornate a few years back. Really cool fish but was super skittish. Grew pretty slow compared to other cats I’ve kept.

Entirely consistent with the observation on my pair so far. Hide maniacally. Put on 1" in what seems like 6 months.
