Off the grid, almost

At the other end of the size spectrum from the tiny poison dart frogs, are the soft ball sized, imposing cane toads. These opportunists will lumber into the house and eat the dog food if a door is left open. And they can ooze enough toxic slime into the dog bowl while sitting there to make the dog sick.

Saw an episode of these cane toads on nature.

Saw the dog chasing something around the living room last night, it was the toad below, got it out before it slimed the dog.

Those toads aren't even remotely cute

It's amazing how they have invaded such a large area.All the way over to the east in parts of Puerto Rico where we visit they come out in droves at night to hunt.

This guy flew into the living room last night, at first I thought it was a bird or bat.

Still in the back yard this morning, where I lead it last night, probably 5"-6" long.

Another interesting visitor this morning, a leaf nosed bat landed in the eaves, it saw me before I had a chance to get a decent focus, maybe next time.

Cool stuff, and I bet quite a difference from the critters that visited your home/yard in WI. To bad that second shot is out of focus, that looks like one very freaky scary bat.

A little reprieve from my out of focus bat, this young raptor landed on the same balcony a little while later, and posed long enough to get a clear shot.
And yes, the critters here are quite the change, never a dull moment.
