Umm...I think making a pond that interacts with the lake is asking for trouble. One way or another some nasty will find it's either in the pond or in the lake.

4 LMB in a pond? how big do you plan on making it? LMB can get pretty mean in cramped places.

yah u are right..haha i was planning on making it pretty big...but i dont wanna crame...

would it be a dumb idea to go and get abunch of minnows from the bait shop and put them in there? cuase i guess i would never really have to feed the LMB then...

Toss a minnow trap in the lake, you will catch all sorts of great feeders. That's how I catch lots of feeders for my bass! I think a pump that recirculates water from the lake is fine. My parents have a small crick that runs into the lake during high water, and runs backwards during low water. It holds tons of fish, that's where I caught my bass at one inch!

Ok I am going to be the dick here but whatever....DO NOT pump the water back into the lake. Only god knows what you are going to put into that water. It's fine and dandy to use the lake water but whats the point of pumping it back anyways? Also I would probably go with some different choices in fish. Something that you don't see everyday in the lake. Something like pickerel or some nice sunfish and chubs and topminnows.

Why are you making a pond to hold LMB when you live on a huge body of water called a lake that has them anyhow????

Seems sort of stupid without much sense...Why not just get out into the lake to watch them or enjoy them?

:screwy: its not like ill see them ever day yah big pooper

Sorry I do not get it..you have a full lake at your backdoor... but want a iddy biddy pond just to contain them. Why not get out into the lake and actually learn where fish are at and when and watch them there when you want? Why not get a few friends and a seine and check out the lake for the different minnows, darters etc ????

Why make something artificial when you have the real thing?

Glad you had fun.If youre going to make a pond put one in for a pet and see how big you can grow it.Enjoy seeing/catching the rest in the lake

I think its a great idea. Its way cooler watching the fish in the contained area. Just make sure its big enough for them thats all.

What I would do if I lived on a lake is build up the pond and put a veiwing window in it. So you can see from the top and have a veiwing window so you can see them from the side!!!! Pump lake water in and drain it back out. You wouldn't have to run a filter or heater (unless you plan on keeping them through your cold winter) you'll want to vacuum the bottom of the tank/pond occasionally to get the poop and uneated food out.

I don't think draining the water back into the lake is bad either. Its the same lake water that just came in the tank for 20 minutes if you have just 3x turn over. Its like catching fish and putting them in a 5 gallon bucket for 20 minutes then dumping the water and fish back in.
