Brichardi are great fish. A good mix with those would be either Julidochromis marleri, ornatus, regani etc. Pretty easy to find and won't exceed say 5 inches. Only prob I see with having a colony of either, they'll likely breed like flies, unless you welcome the thought of having approx. 100 fry per spawn.

I'd get 1 small jardini, 1 or 2 small dats, and a slow growing cat for the bottom. Just give the dats somewhere to hide from the jar. Oh yeah, and eventually some cool pleco maybe.

For an office with just you and the fish Id go with a single cichlid with a lot of personality like a jack or something that wont outgrow the 55g

I have always had pretty good luck with the Brichardi and like you say they are definately prolific...Worst case scenario? High dollar feeders! Actually the fry can go into my basement pond to grow...bad thing is getting 50 or so 1" fish out of the pond for resale...i've played that game before! :swear: I can section off a 24" by 48" section for them though so it should'nt be too bad. Thanks for the feedback.

if your going for personality i would put in a single long finned albino oscar and a pictus cat possibly.

...(nothing larger than an Oscar)...

Why don't you do just that and get a single tiger oscar? They have plenty of character and would look good with your black sand.

Go with @10-12 asst. africans cichlids....dont get too big vareity in color, and can toss a few feeders in there for your killing pleasure :naughty:

A few plants with a nice peace or 2 of texas holey rock big enough for them to swim in and out of and amazon sword plants, with anice black background.....cant beat it! :headbang2
