can you get a discount if you don't like something new that you ordered and wanna order something else? or do they just charge you full price for both meals?

because when I eat something new that just doesn't taste that good, and the server asks how's my meal, I just reply that everything's good because i'm nice

sumo do you say it warmly with a smile, or like a weak lie?
;-)

I bet.
aaaand that's how you ended up with a blonde wife who's trapped in an asian body.

I've cooked and prepped at a Japanese joint before. Also bussed tables and washed dishes at another place. I still feel the same way about tipping. It's no secret I don't like the concept of tipping if you've been around here long enough but don't assume I'm any of those things you said just because I feel that way.

And why is it only tipped jobs that people feel sorry for? I worked my ass off at many places that provide services to other people without a thank you from the customers. Why do servers in the food industry get more compassion?

Why don't people just ask for an explanation from people who feel like I do about tipping instead of jumping the gun with name calling and things like that? Not that I'm necessarily directing this to you, but just in general

the fact that service people get paid less per hour on the assumption they are going to get tips? the ONLY EXCEPTIONS to minimum wage laws in this country are for service(tip) jobs...and don't get me started on the greed it takes (by business owners, but of course not all) that make minimum wage laws necessary,,, and not to be rude but you obviously haven't spent DECADES(like some of us)having to deal with mad customers.. nothing personal ... just stating reality in the service world:) just some perspective...my last job,one of many, was 10 YRS, MINIMUM WAGE +TIPS...JUST like every other job I HELD FOR 30 YRS...not looking for "sympathy ".... a living wage would do.... one other thing if you don't like tipping.... it would be entirely appropriate for you NOT to frequent places that tipping is expected... to expect good service when you are known as a bad tipper would be a little naive.. once again nothing personal but why would someone spend time busting hump for a non-tipper when the guy at the next table tips well? and you need to try and pay rent on $3 an hour +tips,,, just reality

Well they came out backwards but whatev....

And why is it only tipped jobs that people feel sorry for? I worked my ass off at many places that provide services to other people without a thank you from the customers. Why do servers in the food industry get more compassion?

This is a good point....Haven't thought of it that way before....

but if I was served by kels I'd tip her good just because I know her from here

And I'd make sure you had the BEST Pizza Planet experience in town.

I don't eat at tiny diners that my waitress is the cook but I still don't get why i should tip for carryouts

Why? And I really don't expect a tip for carryout...But it is nice. :) To be honest, I feel that tipping is for "Above and beyond" not for doing your job. I won't tip well for people who only do their job and expect a good tip. That's not the spirit of it. And I take that philosophy to work with me. Your job is to make food and keep the customer happy. If you go above that, you earn a tip.

one other thing if you don't like tipping.... it would be entirely appropriate for you NOT to frequent places that tipping is expected... to expect good service when you are known as a bad tipper would be a little naive.. once again nothing personal but why would someone spend time busting hump for a non-tipper when the guy at the next table tips well?

I do my best to treat every customer equally. Good tipper or not. I know who tips and I know who doesn't and stuff but that doesn't mean that I give one more attention than the other. They are still people who just need to take a load off. I don't know the circumstances each is dealing with. I look at it like judging someone in church when the offering plate goes around. They don't give as much as me. Does that make them any less in need of the sermon? (Does that analogy make sense?)

You my friend are so late to the party. There's already been a 50+ page debate and you haven't said anything we haven't already heard

The census is tipping should not be expected and your boss should pay accordingly , not pass the buck to their customers. Only whiners wanting to keep with an outdated tradition argue for things to stay the way they've always been

We're also aware you can't be paid below minimum wage. You can claim and get paid if you fall short.
