So you should snatch it out of their fingers and say about time?

I say thank you when someone do something for me even though I paid for the services, and people tend to reply in kind as a measure of courtesy. What's wrong with that?

I take pride in my work and always strive for perfection and in return I get paid per our contract, by thanking someone for what I have earned I'm implying I didn't completely earned my check. If I pay for a service and it simply meets expectations a thank you implies you didn't have confidence in those performing the task and are suprised nothing got screwed up.
 
Nothing wrong with saying please and thank you. Might make things more pleasant overall.

Sometimes thank you means you appreciate your customers because they could go to other places. I am courteous toward people I use, and expect the same courtesy returned. Thank you and a smile do not cost you anything.
