The funny...or sad thing about it is when I was talking with a coworker about it and his comment was,"if people stop clearing out the emu's habitat we wouldn't have them running around"....I'm no ornithologist but at least I know that the emu's habitat is in Australia.

He might be partially fight. Maybe some messed with the naturally found fencing creating the emu's limited American habitat.

I don't understand the big deal about an emu. Our neighbors had one they kept with their cows. It wasn't mean and I remember feeding it bread from my hands, however it wasn't fond of dogs or cats and probably killed quite a few cats.
 
More likely it is someone's pet that escaped.No zoos have come forth and reported any large flightless birds missing.

I bet. They're faster than donkeys and probably more intimidating than a lama. Not to mention the claws on their feet.
