It was between -35 to -45 here the other day. My car wouldn't start. Battery hasn't been the same since.

Hello; been a while since I tried to nurse a battery thru a winter. There are some things that help. Back in the day I could turn almost everything off that used electricity. I would shut down everything when I pulled into my parking spot for the night and allow the car/truck to idle for about five minutes. The theory being this gives thee alternator a chance to catch up the battery charge a bit. No radio - nothing, not even the heater fan. Newer cars might make it harder to do this. My pickup keeps the lights on for a while after turning off the engine. Might still be worth a try.

A cold start takes a lot out of a battery and then we run a fan and often headlights more in the winter. If your commute is short the alternator may not be able to keep up. Might try shutting down as many things as possible on the drive home to relieve some of the drain on the battery.

If you have a house outlet close to where you park then a battery maintainer might help. The kind that shuts itself off when the battery is charged. Maybe an electricity heated dipstick or oil pan heater.

I guess you know to keep the fuel tank at half tank or more full in cold weather. This use to be a big deal back when we had metal fuel tanks. Keeping the fuel topped off helped to prevent condensation inside the tank. Might not be such a big deal with the plastic tanks and the more tightly closed fuel systems.

I keep expecting the battery in my pickup to give up. I bought the truck new in 2004 and it still has the battery it came with. The truck lives outside all year. Not so bad as Canada but will get below 0 F sometimes.

Good luck

Hello; Not me this year, it is supposed to be in the 60's (F) here on Christmas day. I have had a few nights in the teens so far. Have had snow on Christmas a few times.
I've never had snow on Christmas, its summer here so no snow for me :(

I guess its cool that I can go to the beach for Christmas, but not as cool as snowmen! :D

hello; It is almost midnight here in Tennessee.
Its 3:30 in the afternoon here in Tassie, it won't start to cool down until about 6:30-7ish.

Being in central Fl, its summer 50 weeks a year.
We'd love to see snow. So far in the past years we've gone to Ashville, buffalo, NYC, Montreal and Toronto for vacation to hope to see snow. No such luck.

Man, you guys don't know what you've got, what I'd give for a white Christmas! I'm walking around in minimal clothes sweating like a pig in 25°c and blazing sun (the sun makes it feel way hotter than it is), while you lucky buggers get to build snowmen! I'm jealous...
I'd trade you in a hurry haha. I have eczema on my hands and if it isn't the middle of the summer they are cracking and bleeding. It sucks. After many years winter is no longer fun most of the time. Things that suck: waking up in a freezing house every morning (54F), your car doors/windows frozen shut with ice covering ur windows, the dog hobbling in after being out for 2 min cause it's so damn cold, ice buildup on your roof which will cause leaking if u let it happen, putting ur back out from shovelling so much, falling, driving, more ice. Possibly worst of all is the power bill. I can't afford to put any tanks in my basement cause of it haha. Have to keep them on a main floor. If we only did get a bit of snow at Christmas that would be awesome. The only thing it's good for is the kids, and SNOWDAYS! Getting paid to stay home is awesome.

Snow is pretty fantastic, that's why I drive a big ol' redneck 4x4 pickup so I can drive by waving at the jackasses stuck on hills because they were too afraid to hammer the gas and slide lol.

I've always hated the snow.....the cold too for that matter.I can't wait to retire so I can get away from the northeast. You all can take your snow and shove it lol.
