Official Off Topic Discussion Thread #1

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hello; Our member "carp" has a history of these sorts of posts and a pattern of moving a thread into a series of similar back and forths. I think of them as "circular posts" sort of like when we get into a discussion with a child who keeps asking "why" after every response you give. He get a lot of negative attention and seems to thrive on it.

My take is that the "unfollowing" or "following" has not so much to do with anything as does the attention gained.

I do not think you missed much. I have considered "unfollowing" the Carp myself and may yet do it. His practice is not a problem in a lounge thread such as this one. However the practice has happened in some regular threads where members were trying to get needed information and his "circular posts" have taken up pages of such a thread.

Got it... so to understand this thought process is asking for a migraine.

Moving on, happy new years everyone

Man today is a sad day, I think my betta is on his way out. He's been slowly declining for about a month now and isn't moving but's still alive. He was my first tropical as well :(

A lot of the bettas have poor genetics,my friend has had the same problem:they live 2,3or 4 years and then there health declines,it's a classic inbreeding example and it's why I tell people to out-breed there fish.

What happened.... i was supposed to have a couple of surgeries on my hand but eventually balked.
In June I got bit by a dog on my left hand,I thought it was getting better but the other day I was cleaning the yard and my fingers were stiff, and then my hand was shaking uncontrollably and wouldn't stop,so I may have to see a doctor.

I've given up on Bettas. I've gone through 4 in the 9 months.
Hello; Some years ago I had the notion that it helps bettas to have a fairly tight cover over their tanks. My thinking went that because they go to the surface to get a gulp of air from time to time that the air above the water needs to be warm and moist. For example my tanks are kept around 80 F while my room temp is currently 66 F. I may be way off about this but seem to recall having better luck with bettas using a tight cover. No real evidence for this notion.

I bought an adult and have had him for 8 months or so. I'm contemplating buying a quality imported one at an LFS, they have some real nice ones

I had a a lid and warm water, it was just a slow decline. He is still alive but barely moving or breathing. This would be my first tropical fish death, not counting my brothers danios since I didn't completely own them and they were pretty weak under both of our care
