hello; Squirrel tails. I have a couple around to use when tying fly rod lures. Bits of mink, deer body hair ( which is hollow and can be fluffed out and shaped., deer tail hair which is not hollow, elk, various chicken feathers, peacock, and likely some other animal stuff.

By the way I watched a national geo film the other night about South Africa animals. One featured was a ground squirrel. It used it's tail like a sun shade. Not sure how big they get compared to the tree rats around Tennessee, USA. Not so cute after all. Do they taste good?

My uncle was a good squirrel hunter and tails were around. I use to have them tied to the handlebars of my bicycle often. I think some guys tied them to car radio aerials.

Checkout giant squirrels and Pygmy squirrels.

By the way :at this time the baby squirrels are leaving the nest here,so u can expect more mortalities due to young inexperienced squirrels.
Never eaten one,but some people love the taste.

They are about 25% bigger than grey squirrels, they aren't cute either. Just ground rats.

As for taste I can't say, the farm workers take them home and stew em. I have only eaten guineafowl

If I remember correctly sa squirrels used to be primarily arboreal, but then a lot of the larger forest in s a were cut down, leaving either fields or less diverse scrub of acacia or mimosa, the squirrels survived because they readily reverted to a more ground squirrel like lifestyle.

These farms are in scrubland. Not sure if there ever were forests here.

South Africa used to be a lot wetter a few hundred years ago,if old baobabs grow in your area they are relics of a wetter more diverse time, this is why scientist see very few young baobabs in sa ,they require wetter conditions to survive when young and to germinate.

Nope not even baobabs on the farm.
