A 914 was my dream car for a long time, although I never actually owned one. I made do with a Fiat X1/9...anybody remember those? Low-powered, impractical, no cargo space, no headroom, no legroom...and an absolute blast to drive. One of the great unsung sports cars of that era, IMHO. My brother christened it "the horniest car ever made!"

Of course, at 6'2", cramming myself into the Fiat was sort of like squishing a giraffe into a phone booth (anybody remember those? lol). But, once I actually got inside, the thing cornered and handled like a slot car. I'm smiling just thinking about it.

I particularly recall that wonderful removeable targa top. I could really drive the car properly only with the top removed; it latched in place somewhat haphazardly and on more than one occasion, while driving with the top installed my head would smash into it and eject it from the moving car. This was an ever-present danger whenever I ran over some huge obstruction on the pavement, like a junebug or maybe a peanut, causing the almost-solid suspension to throw me against the targa top.

I never actually calculated my gas mileage, mainly because I ran that car at red-faced screaming maximum RPM almost continuously and I didn't want to lie to my father about how relatively poor the fuel economy probably was.

Lest you get the wrong idea about that car...let me clarify that I loved it and used it as my daily driver for several years! :)
I had a beat to death Alpha Spyder that I drove the same way! I have NEVER had as much fun before or since. Awesome feeling driving those roadsters.

Hello; The above picture is soon after I got the 914. Around 1974.
914 (77 Flood).jpg

This picture was taken after the flood of 1977. I had t odrive it thru lots of mud. This was the start of the demise of the car. Mud got packed under the rocker panels and a couple years later rust had started. If I had know I could have drilled out the rivets and cleaned out the mud. Anyway cars andtrucks of the 70's all rusted

Absence of a decimal point seems to indicate Canada. Cents per liter.

No, no, US Gallons. I’m in central California.
1.2 us gal = 1 imp gal
.8326 Imp gal=1 us gal
£.72 = $1
£3.6=$5
@$5/gal=£ 3.6 /.8326 imp gal

So I pay =£4.32/ imp gal
If you paid £5.96/imp gal =$8.28/1.2 us gal

So you pay in the commonwealth terms
=$6.90/us gal

And if anybody wants that in euros per liter they can work it out. ;)

All of this conversion stuff is too complicated for me but what I do know is that the government here recently raised the tax on fuel and it's now at least €1.60 per litre it sucks

BTW. The 1964 Midget was my car in college. Very low CG. .85gs on the skidpad.

Nice wire wheels that fell off. Hepolite racing pistons turned the transmission to poo.

By the way there are no known pictures of my MG. It looked exactly like this one except the grill was removed and it had two big rectangular Lucas driving lights. Mine also had wing mirrors instead of cowl mirrors. Black rag top.

It appears that the Taliban has managed to get the news to stop talking about the pandemic for one day.

The “morning after” face, when your parents find that condom you tossed out the window, stuck to the rear fender.

I don't see how a $20'000'000 windfall and a ban from a palace thousands of miles away can be classed as a "backfire". In my book that's a great day at the office!

It appears that the Taliban has managed to get the news to stop talking about the pandemic for one day.

Left unchecked, that particular virus will spread too!

It's going to eventually all kick off again now. Both Bidon and Johnson are going to be extremely reluctant to do so, but I can't see it going any other way. I just feel extremely sad for the desperate Afghan citizens.
