Official Off Topic Discussion Thread #1

Hello; Not a dog. A pet hippo. The telling bit for me were the comments made by the hippos owner and the warnings which he ignored. I will assume I will not offend anyone on here as i doubt any have a pet hippo.

The project car has brakes!

I changed all of the steel brake lines and so there was plenty of air in the system and it was difficult to bleed it out. I ended up making this little device out of a medical syringe and some spare fish filter parts.

The little wire spring clip allows me to keep pressure on the system while I go around and open the bleeders. This put about 10 mL into the system each time popping out an equal amount of air and I only had to use this about six times before the system was solid enough to pedal bleed.

Hello; I suspect those who put the blame on the owner of a dog will like half of this story. The owner in question will have to pay a heavy fine. The other half not so much I suspect. The part of the two dogs being put down.
Before passing judgment there is a third animal lover group to consider. In case you do not read the story the owner was walking his dogs on a beach. The two dogs were off leash. They attacked a protected seal on the beach. Gues the telling point is the dog owner allowed the attack to go on for 30 minutes.

Does it help that I am not reporting attacks on people lately?

It doesn't matter how many stories you post or if anyone reads them, it boils down to the same thing.

If you take on the responsibility of having a dog then you are responsible for what that dog does. If you cannot handle this responsibility don't get a dog.

Hello; Seems NASA has determined we no longer have two billion years to exist on the planet. We now have a mere one billion years of the planet being habitable. Can we even last one more million?

Hello; This is the story of a WWII P-38 which crashed on the ice. A banker in my hometown, Middlesboro KY, formed an expedition to recover the plane decades later. They found it deep in the ice. Recovered it and brought it to Middlesboro to be restored. I visited the hanger during restoration a few times. Took years. It was restored to flying condition. For several years it was flown during the fall festival until the banker died. Was a sight to see. The wife sold it and it is somewhere else now.

But overall, I'm feeling more and more as though checking in here has simply become a habit, with no real expectation of gleaning anything other than some mild entertainment in most cases.

These days I have to be pretty bored to even log in, let alone comment on anything.

This coming December will be 10 years since I joined. I was extremely active for years as you are all aware but my mojo began to wane a while ago, and now it's rare I'm on. And even when I am on I no longer have the inclination to join in any longer.

I recently started my "perch journal" thread just to give me an excuse to pop in once in a while. But other than that thread I have no plans to get involved at all really.

That perch thread, once it's runs it's course, will probably see the final curtain come down on my MFK journey.
