Fired For Surviving: 7-Eleven In Oklahoma Fires Overnight Clerk Who Shot Attacker Mid-Strangle

Hello; There is an old saying: Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six. In this case the store clerk was not punished by the legal system. A surprise on it's own. But she was fired by 7-eleven.

So, a modification. Better to be fired by 7-Eleven than carried by six. Not reported in the story, but I wonder what the store wanted her to do. Just let the guy strangle her to death???

'Professional tenants' trashed home while avoiding rent for 2 years. Taxpayers even chipped in $23K of assistance. But landlord must cover all costs

Hello; There is a theme going around that landlords are villians. I see it on the news often. The idea seems to be the person who pays for a building, does the upkeep and pays a mortgage is not entitled to offset those costs by getting rent. I get it is not always so simple.
The big kicker in this story being the taxpayer chipping in $23K to the renters of which they did not use for rent.

I thought that $1 billion tag was recent, but that was the 2021 estimate.

The govt hasn’t released any updates.

Hello; There are two remodling projects going on it would seem. The one pictured is the capitol building apparently initiated by the congress & funded with taxpayer monies.
The other project is a ball room addition to the White House initiated largely by the president & funded with private monies. Both projects drawing ire from some. Praise from others. A key difference being how they are funded.

Hello; Here is a mauling the results of which I do hope the animal is not punished for. The guy deserved what he got.

Brings up another question. Zoo enclosures have traditionally focused on keeping the animals in. I suspect the designers have not spent too much time on keeping deranged folks out. I can foresee some sort of push to revamp zoos. Not sure I can get behind such. They do not need to do anything at all to keep me from climbing into a lion enclosure.

I suspect the designers have not spent too much time on keeping deranged folks out.

Considering the wall he climbed was 20ft high, and also that a near certain grizzly death awaits anyone who successfully scales said wall, I'd have thought keeping (sane) people out of a lion enclosure shouldn't be that difficult.

But that guy was extremely troubled. You can't really factor something like that in. Given the circumstances I think it would be overly harsh to prosecute the zoo and/or destroy the lion.

The people I feel sorry for are the few who no doubt witnessed the event, probably kids too.

I think it would have been better all round if he had been successful in his previous attempt to fly to Africa in the undercarriage of that plane he tried to board!
