OFFICIAL PLANT/GARDENING THREAD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most people use greenhouses, which are wildly, wildly expensive to keep warm since they don't hold heat well at all - I rebuilt an old garage into my plant house, complete with insulation, etc - and heat it with an electric blower heater and it is highly efficient and inexpensive. Strip lights, wire shelving, etc. It's 70 degrees all winter and like a tropical rainforest in there. My tanks are in there too.
That bulb is fairly quick to naturalize (spread.) But you should be looking up other sources. They should be closer to 40 cents each. But, if you want to go the easy route - just grab a bag and plant them in a small clump and enjoy.

That sounds great for the fish!

Found a deal where I can get 50 bulbs for thirty bucks and not pay shipping, think I will go that route :)
H. Non-scripta should be planted in autumn, right?

Some more pics:

Only know the german Name of this one.

And another one for you, prawn - what on earth is this? All I know is that it grows where I put lots of decaying leaves and mud from my pond, so it probably uses lots of nutrients, and that it looks amazing.

Wow, some super cool plants here..

Only thing I really have left alive is my Mighty Black Mangrove... I grew it from a seed, its now 4 years old:

Hi guys
That Mangrove is a beauty! Do their seeds look like a long bean, like the Reds? Is it growing in an aquarium?

Chub - The plants are beautiful. The yellow one may be some kind of Cinquefoil or similar. The AWESOME flower at the end, is a Fritillaria imperialis. It is one that I've wanted to grow for a while, but haven't yet. Does it spread at all?

The bulbs you just got - I honestly do not pay attention to when things "should" be planted. I just plant them whenever and let nature take its course. Look at it this way - In nature, they rest in the ground, and not in a bag. :) So - plant them now, and they actually will grow, since they grow during the summer, but may or may not flower this year.

I'll have to start posting some pictures huh?

The yellow one is caltha palustris :)

You are right on the ID, thanks! It is really beautiful, I do not have a clue how it got there though, it's in an unused corner of the garden. Might move it in autumn. Do believe it spreads, albeit slowly ;)
Haven't got the bulbs yet, will probably do in autumn as they would only Show flower in spring anyway :)

Looks like some kind of rare grayish blur tree to me :)

Need details - and a much better picture of a typical branch and leaves.

I've been laaaagging with my plants. I have some succulents my aunt gave me that are literally popping out of their pots, hopefully in next few days I can repot them, oh and also some kind of palm tree also. I think it's the same kind of soil needed.
