OFFICIAL PLANT/GARDENING THREAD

Lol, how about rose experts? I want to plant some roses in the front yard, is now good? The soil is soggy now though, I guess we're getting more rain next week.
Late summer to fall is best, most normal roses are hardy once established, I would not plant them while soil is soggy, another similar easy to grow plant is thornless black berry

I did those things when tried last spring lol.I got a expanse of growth but by the end of the summer most of it had all died and I was pretty much back to patxhes of dirt lol. This year I think I will lay the seed at the start of the spring.
Hint: in fall leave a thinish layer of fallen leaves so the grass has natural fertilizer.

If possible use native grasses, which are more resilient.

I had crab grass take over. Strangely, it died out by fall and the next year I only had the grass I planted and then bare spots left from the dead crab grass.
Now the grass filled in along with over weeds. Lol it sorta blends now.

The dead spots are likely from nutrient deficiencies, lawns are about as far from how grass was meant to grow as things get, lots of nutrient breaks and mowing grass regularly is not healthy for it, lawns are merely an expression of human vanity and collective OCD

I’ve planted roses in spring/summer/fall. They have all done well as long as they are covered well for winter.
Winter is my biggest enemy.
Typically late fall is when plants are moved/planted since they have gone dormant for the year.

I think my dead spots were from being scorched by the sun. Also, what I call a lawn is mearly common weeds mixed with grass seed. Haha
I mow around 3acres in the summer months. It’s just to keep bugs down and rodents away from the house.
I can’t imagine putting in the work to maintain a flawless lawn. I already put aside one day out of the week just to mow and trim the year. Ugh

3 acres seems a bit much, especially when a pair of guinea hens could keep the pests down easily (used to work and spend time at farms, where I learned about 99% didn't have an idea how to run a farm or ranch).
