Cool!

Was at my local dive club last night and made plans so I'll definitely be diving this weekend at my local quarry. Don't know which day yet but Sunday looks nicer so probably then. Also heard a report of a channel cat laying on top of a milk jug on one of the training platforms so hopefully I can get some catfish action in my camera :)

Anyone have any tips for me on this? Want to try to catch a Stonecat (Noturus flavus) in my local creek on rod and reel. Where would be good areas to fish for them and what kind of rig and setup?

Nevermind at last comment, meant to post that under the fishing thread and I'm subbed to both so I can't tell which is which.

Free diving the Atlantic this afternoon. Two Hawksbills, loads of fish and jellies....and seven sharks. Three of which were hunting down (and then killed and ate) are HUGE French angel. Of the seven nurse sharks, four had hooks in them.

One of the nurse sharks was the smallest pup I've ever seen. Sad to see it already had a hook within her first few months of life. I tried to catch her to remove it, but she was too quick for me.
Most of these are screen shots from the video. Still working on trimming it down.

Nice shots Matt! I don't know a whole lot a about sharks but do you expect the hooks to rust and fall out? Be sad if they don't. About 90% of bullhead cats swallow the hook while fishing but about 90% of them just grow skin on top of it and it gets absorbed into the blood.

Nice shots Matt.About those hooks, will they eventually kill the shark or will they rust and fall out?

Exposed hook will rust. The hook in the flesh or in the stomach / GI tract will not (as they are not exposed to saltwater). Check out the old 'nurse shark rescue' thread that's a sticky in the shark and ray section for more info and x-ray pics.

We do our best to unhook any we can. That being said, knowing how to grab a shark, safely restrain it to pull the hook without getting bit all while 15-20 ft down and holding your breath isn't for most people. This is one of those days were someone with a kayak or paddle board waiting at the surface would have come in very handy. We didn't expect to see so many. Haha
