Officially back in the Hobby, well tomorrow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great pickups, but all in a 4' tank will be tough to pull off, especially the Guianacara.

Good luck and we need updates and pics when you get them.

Welcome back...and in all honesty, I wouldnt even attempt the neets with the rest of your stock.

Feisty is a completely deceiving adjective for these fish. I eventually moved down to 1 after 3 of them terrorized my "extremely packed with driftwood & rocks" 265 and killed 2 carpintis 'vontehillo', 2 salvini, an istlanum and a trimac over a 48 hr period when I was out of town...and were working on the jag when I got home, all before the neet was even 3 inches and the others were all over 4.

I have one 3-3.5" one now that is a dither for my istlanum pair and he would kill the female for sure if the male wasnt in the tank.

Ill tell you like someone told me...you will end up hating it (them) if you try them in a community. I dont hate mine, but I did when they terrorized and attempted to kill all other tankmates. They make spawning convicts look like girl scouts.

Sheesh! Scratch Neets off my list. They sound like terminators.

HAHA...man, I cant even express how out of control they are. I think "al-qaeda" is arabic for Neetroplus nematopus. I kept the one because the others were males as well and the biggest was trying to exterminate the smaller 2.

Id eventually like to get a female and have a pair in a 55. They are very cool and interactive fish with great personalities on their own, but Id say equivalent to red devils in attitude, tenacity and their refusal to quit until no one exists but them. My male frequently challenges my 6" male istlanum before getting put in his place.

I have a convict and HRP in my big tank as well, but they will be coming out next time I take everything out of the tank. They just hide or have developed invisibility features. he keeps them in hiding 24/7. That being said, he doesnt do anything more than chase the loaches & catfish until they are out of his way.

I have no personal experience with the Guianacara. I understand they are relatively peacful, like larger groups, and I would think should be kept with more peacful SA such as geos, Severums, Angels etc.

Also, how long has your new tank been up and is it properly cycled?

THanks everyone. I have been keeping fish for close to ten years, so yes the tank is cycled and has been running for many months.

I got the fish about an hour and a half ago. All fish were in great condition and easy to acclimate. The Neet did not work at all. The thing was punking every fish left and right. He had to be extracted, and boy did he have some teeth. No reason in him killing all the nice looking fish. now I think the tank will be pretty peaceful for the time being.

I have to say this is such a great mix of fish. all still small, but tons of different shapes and eventaully amazing colors as they grow, cant wait!
