OH NO! The Chemical Filtration Debate

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, so if we're going to view all internal workings of chemical deployment, I suggest we start breaking this stuff down in a systematised fashion so we can all follow without the randomness. Chose 'deployment' rather than 'filtration' by design then - Filtration doesn't encapsulate chemical exchanges as a whole subject we're about to explore.

I also suggest starting at the top layers with products relating to initial H2O, & moving our way in deeper along the complexity lines with scientific reasoning and interactions behind it.
If someone has better ideas id love to hear it, however the most simple, quick & efficient means of investigation of anything..... is a SWOT type analysis.

Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Opportunities:
Threats:

Every contribution to any given system, will display 'Cause & Effect'

Can we safely assume this is the one principle that encapsulates all of us into a singular discovery unit?

So what say you? Comments, Ideas or Different Directions?

Clockwork, if we roll on this, we'll leave O3 rundown to you bud, I can sense your itching for it..lol
:iagree:

But perhaps we should start a new thread. :irked:

lol.

and to think, i joined with the expressed desire to be selfishly researching something for own project, not assisting or hinder (however you look at it) others this time round by flapping my gums. :turtle:

Just experience?
I'm sure there is more concrete evidence out there.
Seachem customer support is usually very good about answering questions, might be worth a shot to ask them and see what they say, post it here.

Honestly don't care that much, I use a different product, works great and its cheaper. Why fix something if its not broken. I have asked SeaChem about their ReefSafe ( I think that is what it is called) and they were helpful with that compared to instant ocean where I am still waiting for a fax result of the analysis I requested.
I do prefer third party analysis when it comes to testing products.
But when using Prime, don't forget your Safety Goggles and Gloves, lol.

Prime is pretty hard to beat for the concentration price wise. Especially when you buy bigger quantities online.

I did happen to get some in a rather private area the other day. DONT ask how, but it burned and was in no way pleasant.

Your alright clockwork, at least you got a pulse bud!

Komodo, Im going out on a limb here by saying chemistry is extremely complex within the realm of simple baseline interaction laws of acids & bases & atomic charge swap meets.

To answer your question with a wrong snap of the neck, one is neutral, one is charged. The real issue is that everything is in constant state of change, however all you can do as the observer is calc known X's & Y's & perform a snapshot.
To answer it gentler, different specific tests pick out the difference.

Talk prime, prime sells the test kits to distinguish the differences.
Interactions can be tracked, so principles must act as claimed or else profit-taking hell will ensue!

Dont worry, I know everything is always moving haha
I have been in several organic chemistry courses in university.

On another note I know Prime is much cheaper in the long run, but I do not have access to large quantities of Prime in my area. Biggest bottle is 250ml here. Online, largest I found was 4L, can't find the 20L haha
So it works out around $0.006 per gallon of water treated for what I use and around $0.002 for prime. No question that Prime is the better bargain, but having trouble finding that size in Canada where I live. Maybe once I move, I will switch onto it because unless I messed up my math there, Prime is the much better option. (three times cheaper than one I use and does more according to their website)

On a positive note, I did not think it was that much cheaper, so I will probably be switching sometime (LOL) As a student, I need to save as much money as I can if I want to keep up this hobby.

Awsome way to save a lab rat!!! It sounds like they don't do animal testing. Which also leads me to wonder what the fish feel.

I have noticed a more vibrant behavior in my fish when I don't use any chemicals in my WC water (aged & aerated, rather than treated).
