OH NO! The Chemical Filtration Debate

For the record, API makes a tap water conditioner that is more concentrated and cheaper than Prime.
Prime, 5ml treats 200 litres, available online in Australia for about $20 per 500ml.
API Tap Water Conditioner, 5ml treats 378.5 litres, available online in Australia for about $10 per 473ml.
The API conditioner doesn't claim to detoxify ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, or heavy metals, but I don't need it to.

To reiterate what I said on page 2, unless there's a chemical filter media that's as quick, cheap and easy to use as doing a gravel vac/water change that does the same thing or better, I don't really have any interest in chemical filter media. It's not something I have a use for.

I bought a four pound container of Sodium Thiosulfate crystals from Aquatic Eco-Systems for $30 (I think). It will last me for the rest of my life. If I had kids, I could will it to them. The stuff of course is 100% concentrated and a little bit goes a long way. I bought it several years ago and even dechlorinated a swimming pool, and the container is still full.

By the way, if you have a pair of fish that have been doing a "mating dance" and you want them to take it up a notch, do a large water change with chemical free water. It will be magic.
