Right now we have a 5 gallon tank set up with a peppered Cory catfish, tri shark, and another fish my sister picked out, (can’t remember the name). With a few live plants. They are all very small at the moment. I know I need to upgrade to a bigger tank very soon. My question is what Gal tank do I need for a tri shark, and a peppered Cory catfish? I would also want a rainbow shark in with them, Is that a good Idea? Also my final thing is I know the Tri sharks are community fish so would I need to put in two more tri sharks in too keep him company?

Whenever i buy a tank i buy it to house the fish for life. So you probably want to get something around 55 or bigger. I would buy more Tri sharks so he won't get stressed out. Just remember when you upgrade your tank you have to upgrade your filtration too

For a tri shark, slowly upgrade to a 75. You also might want a group of about 3 of each.

Oh, and we need a physical description of the other fish, we could ID it for you.

It looks like a silver dollar with a neon yellow line on the top and bottom. It’s about a quarter sizes. The guy at house of tropical’s said that it will only last two years because it’s injected into the fish.

Oooohhhh.... A painted glassfish I would assume. If he makes the first 3 months without dying, he should be relatively easy to keep.

you need a larger tank for the bala shark and possible silver dollar. both of those fish like to swim in schools. get you a few more and upgrade to a 55 gallon. that should house them for life and not be too costly of an investment.

My 55 gallon was only 250$, one would do a small shoal of balas well.

Tri shark = bala shark?
Those get about a foot long, so you'll need a 75 minimum, a 125 would be better.

Corydoras all stay small, but a 5 gallon still isn't adequate. If you want to keep them with the bala sharks you could get a dozen or more, they look great in big groups.

I would start checking craigslist, in my area a used 125 set up is about $300 or so.

for future reference, 5 gallon tanks are suitable for several goldfish or livebearers like guppies, platties or swordtails. They don't get big.
